29/1/2024 - Patient Questionnaire

We would like to advise you there was an administrative/technical error which has resulted in a number of patients having the incorrect middle name printed on their correspondence. We sincerely apologise for this and would like to reassure you that this will not in any way affect either your response, or your patient registration details held by the practice which are correct.

TAFF VALE PRACTICE

Have your say on the proposed closure of Cilfynydd Branch Surgery and Ynysybwl Branch Surgery

IMPORTANT UPDATE 22nd JANUARY 2024

Taff Vale Practice recently submitted an application to Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board to close two of its branch surgeries, one in Cilfynydd and one in Ynysybwl.

The decision to close two sites has not been easy.  The limited services offered at both sites prior to COVID-19 pandemic have been under review for some time.  Patients who visit these sites will be aware both surgeries have been temporarily closed since September 2022. Post-covid the ability for primary care to recruit and retain is significantly worse than pre-covid. Fewer GPs are choosing to work full time in patient facing general practice, reasons given are often down to the sheer volume and intensity of the workload. This presents sustainability challenges for the practice.  The GP Partners feel that consolidating services over fewer sites is the only way the practice can ensure a sustainable, safe and high-quality service for the future.

The practice is conducting a patient and stakeholder engagement exercise to seek the views of patients regarding the effects that the temporary closures may have caused and to determine any adverse effects that may arise as a result of the closures being made permanent.

Two public engagement events were set on Tuesday 16th January 7.00 pm at Cilfynydd Community Centre, Howell Street, Cilfynydd CF37 4NR and Tuesday 23rd January 6.00 pm at Ynysybwl Community Centre, Windsor Place, Ynysybwl CF37 3HR.

At the first public engagement meeting a number of issues were raised.  One of these was that the patient questionnaire should have been sent to all patients rather than Head of Household.  We therefore felt it was correct to send a questionnaire to every patient aged 16 years and over likely to be affected by this proposed service change.

We have also extended the consultation period by 3 weeks which will give sufficient time for each and every patient to comment and return their questionnaire.  The revised closing data for the consultation process is:

Friday 8th March 2024
